About us

Eurofins Food Integrity Control Services (EFICS), founded in 2017, is an individual business unit of the Eurofins Food & Feed Testing laboratories in Germany with a special focus on honey authenticity and integrity.

Within the global Eurofins Network, we are the specialist laboratory for honey authenticity and integrity

The particular analytical expertise focuses on authenticity testing by innovative analytical technology (e.g. LC-Orbitrap-HRMS, EA/LC-IRMS and LC-MS/MS multi-methods). In 2018, EFICS was the first laboratory to introduce foreign sugar detection in honey by LC-HRMS under ISO 17025 accreditation on a commercial scale and at an international level. Together with other partner labs in the Eurofins laboratory network, we are able to offer a comprehensive portfolio of authenticity methods (e.g. including 1H NMR profiling, 13C / 2H SNIF-NMR performed by the authenticity competence center of Eurofins Analytics Frances SAS), as well as the full range of physicochemical and bioanalytical parameters important for the honey and bee product industry.

Excellence in honey analysis

As one of the few sector-specific laboratories of the Eurofins network, we provide dedicated services for the honey sector on the national, EU, and global level. For this purpose, we provide a comprehensive portfolio of relevant analytical tests (including authenticity, botanical and geographical origin determination, quality parameters, residues and contaminants), product-specific risk analysis, risk-oriented control plans, and legal evaluations.

EFICS staff is engaged in scientific panels and working groups dealing with honey and bee products standardisation as well as analytical method research, development and harmonisation such as DIN, CEN, ISO, USP, International Honey Commission (IHC), and Apimondia.

We serve customers at all stages of production, processing, trade (import/export) as well as wholesale, retail, and e-commerce. We have officially approved experts according to the German Food and Feed Law (§43 LFGB) for the analysis of sealed duplicate samples from official controls.

Our unique SOTA test package reliably ensures the quality, purity and compliance of honey, minimising the risk of fraud throughout the supply chain.
